Roof Cleaning in Rainham

Rainham's rooftops accumulate biological growth at a rate driven by the town's proximity to the Thames marshes and the prevailing damp air that comes off the estuary. The low-lying ground to the south keeps humidity levels elevated for much of the autumn and winter, creating near-ideal conditions for moss and lichen growth on north and east-facing roof slopes. Concrete tiles — common on the post-war estate housing that makes up much of RM13 — are particularly prone to moss retention because their rough surface texture provides an anchor for spores.

We clean roofs across Rainham using biocide soft-wash treatment rather than high-pressure water. On the older clay-tiled properties near Rainham village, high-pressure cleaning risks cracking brittle tiles, stripping pointing and forcing water beneath laps — problems that are far more expensive to fix than the cleaning job itself. Our biocide treatment kills growth at the root, reduces the speed of re-establishment and leaves tiles intact. We inspect ridges, valleys and lead flashings while on site and clear debris from gutters and valleys before we leave.
