How We Handle Emergency Callouts
When you call or message us with an emergency, the first thing we do is gather the key details: the nature of the problem, the property address, and whether there is any immediate risk to safety. This allows us to prioritise correctly and identify the right trade for the job.
On arrival, our operative assesses the situation and determines the safest and most effective course of action. This may involve an immediate temporary fix — such as capping a leak, boarding a broken window, or making a structure safe — followed by a more thorough permanent repair once materials are sourced.
Where a situation requires multiple trades — for example, water damage that requires both plumbing and carpentry — we can co-ordinate across our team, removing the need for you to manage several contractors during a stressful situation.

What to Do Before We Arrive
Taking the right steps before our team arrives can significantly reduce the extent of damage and help keep everyone safe.
Burst pipe or major leak
Locate your main stopcock — usually under the kitchen sink or near the water meter — and turn off the water supply. This will stop further flooding. If water is coming through a ceiling, place buckets below and try to relieve pressure by gently piercing the ceiling plaster (away from electrics) to drain collected water in a controlled way.
Electrical fault or water near electrics
Do not use any electrical appliances or switches in a water-damaged area. If it is safe to do so, switch off the relevant circuit breaker at the consumer unit. Do not attempt to isolate electrics if you are standing in water or the panel itself has been affected. Leave the property and wait for professional assessment.
Structural damage or collapse
If a wall, ceiling, fence, or structure has collapsed or appears unstable, keep all occupants well away from the affected area. Do not attempt to inspect or remove fallen debris yourself. Contact us and, where there is an immediate risk to life, call 999.
Fire damage
Ensure the fire and rescue service has attended and declared the property safe before re-entering. Do not touch fire-damaged structures — they may be unstable. Once you have clearance to enter, contact us to assess and carry out a make-safe, which may include boarding openings, removing debris, and securing the structure.
Broken window or forced entry
If a property has been broken into, report it to the police first and obtain a crime reference number. Do not disturb the area unnecessarily until police have attended. Once cleared, contact us to board up and secure the property. Avoid leaving a property unsecured overnight where possible.
Storm damage
Stay away from fallen trees, downed fences, or structures that may be unstable in high winds. If a fence or external wall has collapsed onto a neighbouring property or a public area, report it to us immediately so we can assess and make the area safe. Document the damage with photographs for insurance purposes before works commence.
After the Emergency
Temporary Fixes vs Permanent Repairs
In an emergency, the immediate priority is to make the property safe and prevent further damage. This often means carrying out a temporary fix — capping a pipe, boarding a window, or propping a damaged structure — as quickly as possible. Temporary measures are not a substitute for a proper repair, but they can significantly reduce the cost and complexity of what follows.
Once the immediate situation is stabilised, we will assess what is needed for a permanent repair and provide a clear quote. In many cases, particularly for broken windows, damaged doors, burst pipes, and storm-damaged fencing, we can carry out the permanent repair at the same visit or very shortly after.
