What We Do
No Job Too Small
Most households and workplaces accumulate a list of small jobs that never quite make it to the top of the priority pile — a curtain rail hanging off the wall, a blind that won't sit level, a shelf that's been waiting to go up for six months. Our handyman service exists precisely for that list.
Typical Jobs We Handle
Landlord Snagging Lists & Void Property Works
For landlords and letting agents, a void period is the ideal time to address the small defects that accumulate over a tenancy — scuffs, loose fittings, broken handles, draughty doors, and tired silicone. A property presented in excellent condition commands a better rent, attracts better tenants, and reduces the risk of deposit disputes. We work closely with landlords across Thurrock, Havering, and East London to turn void properties around efficiently.
Whether you have a checkout report with a list of items to address, or simply want a general refresh between tenancies, we can work through a snagging list in one or two visits and co-ordinate with other trades where needed. Our void property service and landlord maintenance packages provide additional detail.
Commercial Handyman Services
Offices, retail units, restaurants, care homes, and managed workspaces all generate a steady stream of minor maintenance requirements. Our commercial handyman service handles furniture assembly, shelving, door adjustments, noticeboard fitting, blind installation, cable tidying, and general reactive maintenance. We can work outside normal business hours to avoid disruption. For larger requirements, see our facilities management page.
The Efficiency of Batching Jobs
The economics of handyman work favour batching. A single call-out to hang one picture uses the same travel and set-up time as a visit that completes eight tasks. By building up a list before booking — even if the items feel trivial — you get far more value from every hour. Many customers keep a running note on their phone and book when the list reaches five or six items.
What a Handyman Does Not Cover
Our handymen handle a wide range of general property tasks, but some work sits outside the scope of a handyman service:
- Structural alterations — removing load-bearing walls, forming new openings
- Gas appliance work of any kind — this requires a Gas Safe registered engineer
- Full electrical rewiring or consumer unit work — requires a qualified electrician
- Large-scale carpentry or joinery — better quoted separately as carpentry work
- Full painting and decorating projects — see our painting and decorating page
If we arrive and find a job is larger than anticipated or requires a different trade, we will tell you honestly and advise on the best next step.
How to Prepare for Your Handyman Visit
- Write out every job you want done, however minor it seems
- Take photos of anything that helps explain the job — especially damage, broken fittings, or awkward spaces
- Have any flat-pack boxes open with parts laid out and instructions to hand
- Know where you want shelves and picture hooks — having measurements or items ready saves time
- Clear the area around each job where possible
- Know where your fuse board and stopcock are, in case minor jobs require an isolation
Why Choose Multrex
A Team You Can Trust with Your Property
Honest about scope
If a job is outside what we can handle safely and correctly, we'll tell you. We'd rather escalate to the right trade than do a poor job.
Full job list, one visit
We actively encourage you to build up your list before booking — more tasks completed per visit means better value and less disruption to your day.
Vetted local team
Our handymen are experienced generalists who arrive equipped with a comprehensive toolkit covering the vast majority of day-to-day property tasks.
Related Services
You Might Also Need
Handyman visits often surface tasks that benefit from a specialist trade. These services pair naturally with a handyman booking — we'll flag when something needs escalating and can co-ordinate the follow-up.
Light Carpentry
When a door needs rehinging properly, skirting boards need replacing, or fitted shelving needs building to a specific design, our carpentry team handles the more involved joinery that goes beyond a handyman's scope.
Painting & Decorating
When snagging work reveals a room that needs more than a touch-up, our decorating team takes it from there — walls, ceilings, and woodwork finished properly rather than patched.
Plumbing Repairs
Minor plumbing odd jobs are within handyman scope, but for anything involving pipe replacement, leak investigation, or isolation valve work, our plumbing team attends.
End of Tenancy Cleaning
A handyman snagging visit and a professional end of tenancy clean are the two most common void period requirements — book them together for one co-ordinated programme.
Light Electrical Work
Swapping a light fitting or replacing a socket faceplate is within our handyman scope for non-notifiable work. For anything more involved, our electrical team carries out replacements safely.
Fencing & Gate Repairs
Reattaching a loose fence panel or replacing a broken post is within handyman scope. For longer runs, full post replacement, or new gate hanging, our fencing team provides a comprehensive service.
Our Process
What You Can Expect
From your first call to the finished job, here is how our handyman services service works.
Send us your full job list — however small — with photos where they help explain the task.
We review the list, advise on anything that needs a specialist trade, and give you a clear quote for the visit.
We agree a time that suits you, bundling several jobs together so you get maximum value from the visit.
Our handyman arrives with the common tools and fixings needed to handle most tasks on the spot.
Each job on the list is completed and checked off, with you involved for anything that requires a position or preference decision.
We tidy up before we leave and let you know if anything needs a specialist follow-up or a return visit.
Insider Advice
Helpful Hints & Tips
Batch your small jobs
One visit covering five small jobs costs far less than five separate call-outs. Keep a running list on your phone and book when it grows to five or six items — you'll get far more done per pound spent.
Photos speed everything up
A quick photo of the problem lets us bring the right parts first time, so more gets done in a single visit. This is especially useful for broken fittings, unusual fixings, or awkward locations.
Know where your stopcock is
Everyone in the house should know where the main water stopcock is. In a leak, turning it off quickly is the difference between a quick mop-up and a ruined ceiling.
Don't overtighten flat-pack fittings
Over-tightening cam locks and bolts on flat-pack furniture strips the fitting and splits the board. Snug is enough — the joint relies on multiple fittings working together, not one very tight one.
Our Workmanship Guarantee
Repair and maintenance work carried out by Multrex Maintenance Ltd is guaranteed against defects in workmanship for 12 months from the completion date. If the same fault recurs due to our workmanship within this period, we will return to investigate and rectify it at no charge. This guarantee covers Multrex labour — it does not cover faults arising from pre-existing conditions, customer-supplied materials, normal wear and tear, or damage caused after completion.
- 12 months workmanship guarantee from completion date
- Same fault recurring from our work? We return at no charge
- Does not cover pre-existing conditions or customer-supplied parts
- Unrelated new faults are a separate job
