The Brief

The homeowner wanted two large mirrors installed: a feature mirror on the lounge wall and a full-length floor-to-ceiling mirror. Both needed to be securely fixed to masonry walls and precisely levelled.

Initial Condition

Neither mirror had been fitted. The homeowner had both mirrors and the fixings but lacked the tools and confidence to anchor large, heavy mirrors safely into masonry walls at the correct height and alignment.

Issues Identified

  • Masonry walls required appropriate anchoring to carry the weight of large mirrors safely
  • Large mirror dimensions required two-person handling and precise positioning
  • Levelling accuracy across a wide mirror face required careful measurement and adjustment
  • Risk of wall damage or mirror failure if fixed incorrectly

Our Approach

We assessed the wall structure in each location, selected appropriate fixings for masonry substrates and fitted both mirrors with concealed wall anchors at the correct height, ensuring each was level, secure and would not shift in use.

Work Completed

Both mirrors were measured and marked at the correct height. Wall anchors were drilled and fitted into the masonry at the marked positions. Both mirrors were hung, checked for level and adjusted before a load test was carried out on each. All dust and debris was cleared on completion.

How We Did It

  1. 1Assessment of wall construction at each fixing location
  2. 2Marking of fixing positions using a spirit level to ensure correct height and alignment
  3. 3Drilling into masonry and insertion of appropriate heavy-duty wall anchors
  4. 4Fitting of mirror hanging hardware at the marked positions
  5. 5Two-person lift and careful placement of each mirror onto its fixings
  6. 6Level check and fine adjustment of each mirror
  7. 7Load test and security confirmation on both mirrors
  8. 8Clean-up of dust and debris

Materials Used

Masonry drill bits; heavy-duty wall anchors; mirror plate fixings.

Outcome

Both mirrors were fitted securely and levelled correctly. The feature mirror was positioned to maximise the light in the lounge, and the full-length mirror was fitted cleanly to the wall. The homeowner was satisfied that both were safe, well-presented and exactly as intended.
